PERL
PERL stands for Positive Emotional Response Learning. It is based on Machado's (1984), claim that "if new material was presented in such a way as to produce emotional arousal, i.e. involve the limbic system, it would activate mental powers not normally used.” (Cited in Rose, 1985: 19). This is combined with my own view (derived from my studies & reading of the literature in various fields such as Accelerated Learning, EFL, Psychology & Neuro Linguistic Programming [NLP] ) that generating positive emotional responses in the learning environment can vastly assist in the learning process.
My idea was/is to develop a methodolgy under this name incorporating all the ideas that you will read about on this web site (& as such this name is copywright). Unfortunately having a life to lead somewhat gets in the way of such grand ideas. But time there is so...
Meanwhile although much work could be done to explicate procedures & exemplify lessons which generate PERL, at least you have the basic idea. And really in my view this whole notion of the psychology of the class is way more important than the content of the lesson.
Hopefully I'll have more to add here in the future.
