Timing: 30 minutes

Mats: Video cassette of "The Full Monty"; video player.

Aim: Listening practice

Notes: The F word abounds in this movie so if you or your Ss are of a delicate disposition consider yourselves
to have been given fair warning.
The clip is taken from the fist 15 minutes of the movie INCLUDING the title credits which are relevant to the 1st two questions.

Pre-Class

Write the following questions on the board or prepare a handout:

1) What's the name of the town where the movie is set?
2) What's the town's nickname?
3) What's the name of the boy?
4) What's the relationship between the boy & Gaz?
5) Name 3 other characters.
6) Name 3 of the places you see in the clip.
7) Name the 2 football teams the boy wants to go & see play.
8) How much did it cost to see the strippers?
9) Why does Gaz need the money?
10) What does Gaz decide to do?
11) What's the guy in the car trying to do?

The answers are:
1) Sheffield
2) The Steel City
3) Nathan (Nathe for short)
4) Son and father.
5) Gerald, Dave & Jean
6) Any of: a river, a factory, the street, a working man's club, the Job Club, Nathan's school, Nathan's house.
7) Manchester United (Man U) & Sheffield United
8) Ten pounds.
9) To pay maintenance.
10) Get a group of strippers together.
11) Commit suicide.

Stage One

Ss watch the movie & answer the questions. Go through the list asking for the answers. 
For any they didn't get replay the scene & forwarn them when the answer is coming up & ask them to give it straight after.

Stage Two
You could follow up by asking them what they would/wouldn't do if they needed the money; if they think
stripping is an acceptable/respectable way to make a living etc.
